Our Mission

Latch for Liberation is a community initiative of The Healing Latch dedicated to expanding access to culturally grounded lactation support for Black families.

We believe breastfeeding support is more than clinical guidance- it is community care. Through education, compassionate support, and trusted partnerships, we work to reduce barriers that contribute to breastfeeding disparities while honoring each family's goals, culture, and autonomy.

How We Support Families

Through Latch for Liberation, families have access to:

• Free lactation education & breastfeeding support

• Prenatal feeding preparation

• Early postpartum lactation guidance

• Help with latch, positioning, milk supply concerns, and common breastfeeding challenges

• Referrals to additional healthcare and community resources when needed

As the initiative grows, we hope to expand these services through community partnerships and sustainable funding.

Why this Work Matters

Black families continue to face significant disparities in maternal and infant health, including access to breastfeeding support. These inequities are influenced by historical, structural, and healthcare barriers- not by a lack of commitment or desire to breastfeed.

Latch for Liberation exists to help remove those barriers by offering respectful, evidence-informed, culturally responsive support that empowers families to make informed feeding decisions.
